31st May 2025 Newsletter
Hi guys. This is the fifth newsletter from the Institute of Rejuvenation Science (ICR). In these newsletters, we will tell you what we've done, since the last newsletter, to accelerate the development of rejuvenation science.
Our article on the 2024 experiment has been accepted by a scientific journal
On 1st May 2025, we received an email from the editor of the European Journal of Biological Research informing us that our scientific article “Feasibility of intravenous injection of pig plasma extracellular particles into rats: an acute study” had been accepted and is now in the process of being published. This article refers to the experiment carried out in 2024 by the ICR in collaboration with Unicamp. In it, we describe the isolation of Pig Plasma Extracellular Particles (PPEPs), according to the procedure described by Harold Katcher in his 2023 article in the journal Geroscience, and the administration of these particles to Sprague-Dawley rats to assess whether PPEPs cause acute immunological or toxic reactions. The conclusion of the article is that PPEPs are safe when used in high concentration (the same used by Harold Katcher). The link to the article in the journal is here, but it is not yet available to read in this journal. However, it is the same text as our article in BioRxiv, which you can read by clicking here.
Participation in the Extracellular Vesicles 2025 symposium in Paris
At the end of June 2025, a symposium called Extracellular Vesicles 2025 will be held in Paris (France), organized by the French Society of Extracellular Vesicles. The symposium is free for those who want to attend in person (although prior registration is required), and our work on reproducing Harold Katcher's seminal experiment has been accepted for a poster presentation. You can find more information about the symposium by clicking here.
Raised funds reach 56.5% of the total
By the end of May 2025, the ICR has already raised 56.5% of the total needed to carry out the experiment to rejuvenate rats with PPEPs. This brings the total raised to US$42,400, with the remaining 43.5% still to be raised to reach the total of US$75,000. The ICR is contacting as many players in the field of rejuvenation science as possible to inform them about the experiment and the possibility of donations. In addition, we are looking for specialized media that may be interested in publicizing our initiative. So, if you know of a YouTube channel, podcast, newspaper or other media outlet that might be interested in publicizing this experiment, feel free to talk to us about it or directly to the media outlet.
Our vice-president Nina Torres Zanvettor talks in a video about animal and human testing
During this month of May 2025, the ICR's vice-president, Nina Torres Zanvettor, published a video in English in which she explains why this experiment involves rats instead of dogs, given that it is relatively difficult to find old rats. Nina also examines the possibility of doing a similar experiment directly on humans. The video is in response to some comments on our YouTube channel in which these questions were raised. You can watch the video by clicking here. It's important to remember that in addition to YouTube, the ICR publishes content and updates on two other social networks, Instagram and LinkedIn.
This is a collective effort
This experiment is a collective effort to reproduce Harold Katcher's seminal study, in which the ICR relies on the contribution of those interested in the realization of the experiment. Thus, if you know someone who might be interested in the content of this newsletter, you can forward it to them. Also, if you are not yet a financial contributor of the ICR, we invite you to become one by clicking on this link.
So that's it. We're carrying on, and we won't rest until we've implemented rejuvenation in human beings. See you next time!
